Description
Maker’s Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky (spelled without an “e” to honor the founder’s family’s Scottish heritage) is distilled from a mash of corn, wheat, and malted barley, with the actual “makers” of Maker’s Mark still rotating the barrels in the distillery’s warehouses, bottling the whisky and dipping the bottles in wax — all by hand. Their Wood Finishing Series is on its 4th release, with the 2022 offering consisting of BRT-01 and BRT-02. The two are meant to be enjoyed as a pair, with BRT standing for “hand-barrel rotation”. The whiskey duo explores how barrel rotation and temperature influence the production process, with BRT-01 showcasing the tasting notes that come from the barrels at the hotter top of the rickhouse, while BRT-02 comes from barrels that mature at the cooler bottom. Together, they’re the perfect way to “taste your way through the rickhouse”. Bottled at a cask strength of 109.4, BRT-02 is further enriched with the addition of French oak staves. Where the intense heat at the top of the warehouse makes for big and bold whiskey, the cooler bottom brings darker and heavier notes with chocolate and fruit.
